We have to walk through a desert on the way to the paradise. Before it gets better, it may get worse.
That is the way God designed it. When the Israelites were rescued out of their slavery in Egypt, they had to walk through the desert to get to the promised land. And it was not a pleasant experience. Some Israelites complained that they actually had it better when they were in Egypt.
We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.6But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.” (Numbers 11:5-6)

When they marched out of Egypt, they probably expected their lives to get better immediately. They were certainly very excited in the beginning. But when days turned into weeks, and months, they started to complain. Some wanted to go back to Egypt.
Have you ever wanted something so badly, but when you got it, you wished you hadn’t?

  • Perhaps you wanted to get married so badly and you did, but now you wish you hadn’t.
  • Perhaps you wanted children so badly, but now you miss your pre-children days.
  • Perhaps you moved jobs only to find it to be worse.
  • Perhaps you became a Christian thinking that your life will be better. But it actually got worse?

God is not interested in improving your life. He is interested in improving you. He is making you fit for heaven. There will be chiseling, grinding, and reshaping….
Be thankful for the desert experiences. You are on the way to the promised land.
