The Bible is not the only thing you can look to know how awesome God is. You can also look at what God has made.
When God appears before Job and reveals His power to him, He alludes to these things: 1. The earth and its nature. 2. The universe and its stars. 3. The animals and their ways. 4. The mythical creatures at the time of Job. [Job 38-41]
Of course the Bible is the primary source by which we know God. However, we can also look at the things God has made and feel His power and genius. During the winter break, I plan to watch those BBC series on the earth and nature and animals. I have watched some and each time I am amazed and gripped by the wondrous world that God has made.
But we must make the connection between the beauty of the earth and the creativity of God. Turn it into worship. Think: if the world that God has made is so beautiful and wondrous, how much more God? I marvel at the creativity and beauty that lie in human beings. When I visit museums or art galleries, I am thrilled at what I see. But I always try to make a connection between that and God. If the creature that God has created can be so marvelous, how much more the Creator?
Be still and know God before His creation and speak thus as Job did:
“I am unworthy – how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth. I spoke once, but I have no answer – twice, but I will say no more.” Job 40:4
All of his complaints, his feelings of injustice, and even bewilderment at God’s ways were answered as God showed Him the world He created and therefore His power.
This Christmas season, take time to look at God’s canvass. Let your hearts be filled with His beauty and joy. Turn it into worship.
