Psalm 18:30-This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

I remember almost 16 years ago I was in a church service, where I heard a preacher declare, “your Heavenly Father is perfect!”  It was something that sent chills up my neck, and I knew the Holy Spirit was using this man to solidify this truth in my soul.  Until this day, when I have to endure some tough “seasons” that I don’t understand and hate, I found grace to start my time with God by declaring Him perfect.  Perfect in His discipline and ways…(Hebrews 12:3-11)
One of the things that helps bring security to life, though it rivals conventional wisdom, is to walk with God.  By walking with the Lord, I mean seeking His wisdom through the Word, and applying what you know to do from it.  Our security comes from knowing that we are not following our own way, and if we believe God to be perfect, His way will prove true.
This is why we should not be afraid to walk alone with the Lord, but rather expect it at times.  Because faith calls us to walk out the Word, which “proves true”.  Yet that proof is not right away, which tempts us to be like Abraham and Sarah, and add a “Hagar” into our lives.  A lack of faith will cause us to “wait and see” if our way proves true.  I can’t think of a more insecure way that I have lived, than to wait on my way as if it is perfect…
This is why David speaks of the Lord as being a shield and refuge.  Because once we commit our ways to the Lord, we can live in a confident expectation of His will/power providing what is best.  Generally, experience has to teach us humility to admit we don’t know what we are doing.  Surely we know David didn’t always commit his ways to the Lord, but eventually after some decisions that began corroding his life and family, God humbled him even more to His ways…
Challenge yourself whether you think this way about God?  When people wonder if they are walking by faith, they usually aren’t.  Because you should know whether you are seeking God or not, in the things you do or plan on doing.  Even in our own planning without seeking God, the goal is to be secure and our way to prove “true”.  So that tells us, that if God is not sought, than we don’t have this mentality that God and His ways are perfect.
In His Love, Ld
