Matthew 20:29-31-And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him. 30 And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” 31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
One of the things that I believe helps us give mercy to other people, is to know how bad we need it ourselves!  Many times we can allow our judgement and words to leave our mouths, without considering how merciful God has been to us…
That is not to say, that when we are merciful, we don’t point out what is wrong.  But mercy does so from a heart of understanding and compassion.  Seeking to unify our heart with the person who is crying out for mercy.  In other words mercy is considerate, it considers itself being in the same situation as that person…
These two blind men sitting by the roadside who heard Jesus passing by, knew the hardships of blindness.  Yet the people who wanted them to be quiet, didn’t consider at all what being blind was like.  That somehow these blind men, should’ve have understood how undignified they sounded crying out for Jesus.  But should they ignore their own suffering for the sake of showing “dignity” before the Son of David?  Did those opposing their cries, understand why Jesus came in the first place?
At some point in all of our lives, the desperation for Jesus and needing His mercy in our lives, will overshadow any opposition keeping us from going after it!  Whether that is people and their judgments, or our own pride, the more we recognize we need mercy, the more we are resilient against those who oppose it!
When we stop to consider how merciful Christ has been to us, we would never “hush” people from seeking mercy.  Those who oppose people who cry out for mercy, are not “loving their neighbor as themselves”. Surely if you and I were blind, we would want to see, and resist opposition like these two men, if we had the opportunity to be healed…
