Jesus has three offices: Prophet, Priest and King. We are familiar with the first two – as the Prophet, He speaks God’s word to us, and as the Priest, He mediates for us. But we are not familiar with His role as the King.

King’s role in the Old Testament was mainly to deliver his people from the enemy. He’s a man of war. Think David. He saves his people from the clutches of his enemies. Jesus is that king! He delivers us and saves us and then rules over us!

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king is coming to you;

righteous and having salvation is he,

humble and mounted on a donkey,

on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Zechariah 10:9

When Jesus came, He fulfilled the roles of prophet and priest. However, He still has his role as king left to fulfill. When He comes the second time, He will not come as prophet or priest (sacrificing Himself), but will come as the conquering king. And every knee will bow, either submissively or forcibly,  to Him and be ruled by Him.

But there will be battles to be fought before He comes and wipes out His enemy. Before the D-day, many skirmishes and hand-to-hand combats with the enemy are to be expected.

Beware of comforts and conveniences. They are the poison that the enemy uses to kill us….
