Have you ever had a nightmare that you died – and that’s not the scary part – and you woke up in hell?

As I get older, I am coming to terms with my own frailty and mortality. I have accepted that I will die. So, it’s not death that I am afraid of. But I do get anxious about what will happen after I die. Will I wake up in glory with Christ welcoming me into His everlasting arms or will it be utter darkness and loneliness for all eternity? (By the way, those two are the ONLY options. If the atheists are right, I will never find out!)

What if I was wrong about my own salvation? What if I am like the pharisees who sincerely believed they were saved, but they really weren’t? What if I have rejected Christ without knowing? How will I know? I don’t want to wait until I die to find out, which will be too late…

Thankfully, John tells us how we can know. Here’s how: Are you believing in Jesus such that you are practicing righteousness and loving your brothers? If yes, then you are saved.

“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.” (1 John 2:3)

That’s pretty clear! But what are His commandments?

“And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.” (1 John 3:23)

So, if you want to make your salvation sure, practice two things – 1) Believe in Jesus, 2) Love your brother. If you are doing that, then you can be sure that you are indeed saved. Straight from the word of God.

Let’s not go to hell. What good is it if you have won the billion dollar Powerball but have lost your soul? Hell is not worth enjoying for a few years on earth.

Continue to believe in Jesus and endeavor to love your brothers. Make your salvation sure.
