One of the telltale signs of our pride is in how defensive we get when we feel we are attacked. When our intention and motive are questioned, do we immediately put up a defense or even go on offense accusing the other person of their flaws?

It takes tremendous humility to simply listen and nod in agreement and not put up an excuse or to defend ourselves as to why we did or said what we did or said.

Moses was a humble man. As a matter of fact, the Bible says that he was the humblest man on earth during his time. (Num 12:3) But what was it that showed that he was humble? When I read about Moses, one pattern I have noticed  is that he does not defend himself when he is criticized or accused by others. One time,  he is accused even by his own brother and sister for marrying a gentile. But Moses doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t defend his actions. However, it is God who defends him!

He said to Moses’ brother and sister, “He is faithful in all my house. With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” Num 12:7-8

How awesome is that God himself defended Moses? There is no better vindication than this. The absolute Judge of the world who knows the hearts and minds of all peoples put down the hammer regarding Moses.

Did you know that Jesus Himself will vindicate you in this way against our enemies?

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1

We have the greatest Lawyer on our side. It’s Jesus. And the Judge is His Father. And the Judge always, always, listens to His Son!

Let Jesus vindicate you. Hold your tongue when you are attacked or accused. The reality is that you are actually far worse than what they are accusing you of, isn’t it? But Jesus advocates you anyway…
