When we think of the things we find satisfaction and accomplishment in, we usually derive those standards and achievements from what we desire, or what people have desired for us to achieve while growing up.
Of course there is nothing wrong with having goals, but when those “standards” define our worth, and whether what we are doing is commendable only to us/others, we must reassess from who and where we are finding our approval from? God or ourselves/society?
Without knowing it at the time, I realize God has had to totally disregard standards or goals I’ve had, that He never did have for me! Which in my mind of course were commendable and noble things, but they were things I could find my own boast in accomplishing them. As opposed to the way He desires for me to glorify Him…
The only way we really know we are approved by God or not, is whether we are obedient to His will for us. If we obey His call and walk in it, though it is totally against any idea and goals we had, we know we have no boast but in His grace. However, if I manufacture an idea of what is commendable to me, and go out and accomplish that, where is room for obedience to God for His glory?
To commend myself is to be my own god, which is why God calls us to something we need supernatural grace to embrace, and find our worth in Him, not our own self-approval and pride…
In His Love, Ld
