Our heart needs and wants to be thrilled. It will seek and keep going after that which will thrill it.

Sunday afternoon, I’m watching football on TV. It’s a pretty good game. A nail biter. So, I’m occupied for the time being. But as soon as it’s over, I’m bored and I’m seeking for the next thing that will thrill my heart. So, I flip through the channels for something that will thrill my heart.

What will thrill my heart will be different than what will thrill yours. And what will thrill my heart now is different from what used to thrill my heart before. But one thing that is constant is that all human beings want and need their hearts to be thrilled. Whether it’s in music, dancing, travel, love, riches, gadgets, etc, we seek after them to thrill our hearts.

A mid-life crisis sets in when we begin to sense that nothing in this world will thrill our heart forever. “Been there. Done that!” What is new under the sun anymore? That’s also when we get into trouble as well. In seeking to thrill our dead heart, we seek for something illegitimate and sinful. I have no doubt that so many men who are being accused of sexual harassment were experiencing this deadness of heart….

There is only one who will thrill our heart forever.

Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear; forget your people and your father’s house, and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him.” Ps 45:11

God is the only one big enough and glorious enough to thrill our heart forever. Everything else will disappoint and betray us. If you don’t believe me, just wait….
