I’ll admit something to you… I did not get to have my devotional this morning. I woke up late… I stayed up late yesterday watching several episodes of Ken Burn’s The Vietnam War and snoozed through the alarm, and by the time I got out of bed, I had to get ready for school. My spirit was willing, but my body was not.

So, the thought I share with you today is probably not as marinated as usual. But I did want to convey to you that time to time, I will miss unintentionally having devotional altogether. However, I believe God will look at my heart and my struggles with my failures and have sympathy on me, rather than being harsh with me.

While watching The Vietnam War, I was reminded again of the importance of the role of leaders. I’m sure it’s more complicated than this, but often so many thousands of people lose their lives because of ego of a few or even just one man. It certainly looked that way during the Vietnam war, and I know it was that way behind so many brutalities and casualties. Even thinking now of the country of my parents’ birth – North Korea – one man holds sway to tens of millions of lives.

As much as we blame these evil dictators and bad representatives, we can’t defy that fact that we human beings want to put ourselves under someone else’s authority and have someone represent us – hopefully by someone better than us. But the problem is that they are usually not that much better than us…

Adam and Eve were our representatives. They should’ve been better than us. But they weren’t. They failed miserably and we are worse for it. But can we blame them? They are our betters and we would’ve failed too if we were there.

So, Jesus became our representative instead. And He has not failed. He became the perfect leader that we’ve always wanted but never got. He alone is worthy to be followed absolutely since He alone is incorruptible, uninfluneced by human opinion, and good.
