Psalm 64:1,101 Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
preserve my life from dread of the enemy….

10 Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in him!
Let all the upright in heart exult!

Much like a movie, life can be seen a certain way in the beginning, confusing in the middle, and turn out nothing like we expected in the end.  But because things don’t turn out the way we expected, doesn’t mean they have to be bad.  I believe it is the unpredictability, the uncertainty, and our ignorance of it all that makes life an exciting journey, that leads us to seek and trust God…
In the Psalm from David, he voices “his complaint” to God, seeing his enemies plot and scheme to destroy him.  But if you read vs.5 in this Psalm, what concerns anyone who is being attacked, is the confidence that our enemies have in their plans reigning supreme.  In being blinded by sin, they don’t see a God who reigns over their plans.  So fear provokes us to think that evil will have the final say, not God and His goodness.
This is what living in fear is all about.  Having more of a conviction, that the threat of evil reigns supreme, over faith and a refuge in God!  David in expressing his own concerns, and the confidence of the enemy, concludes in vs 7-10 that God is the only One who reigns!  That the Lord’s sovereign rule should be expected to thwart all enemies and their plans!  A living faith brings a believer peace, “in the face” of all threats from the enemy, faith! (1 John 2:14, 1 John 4:4)
When you consider and fight to believe what Christ really did on the cross in defeating sin, death, and hell.  We can conclude that the ending for the believer is always victorious!  Not only in death, but in life as we go through trouble and trials!  That the threat of the enemy is not the final say for this situation or season in life.  We are to live by faith in all circumstances, that the evil that is being done will never reign as supreme (Genesis 50:20).  The root of this conviction is the gospel, God’s final say; Christ death, burial, and resurrection!
