Peer pressure is not something we experience only in high school. We experience it almost daily. We experience it via news, social media, journalism, commercials, demonstrations, and even in churches.

For example, just 30 years ago when I first immigrated to this country, homosexuality was universally rejected. Everyone understood that it was a deviant behavior and spoke as such. But in 2016, if you say anything against it, you are a bigot, prejudiced, narrow-minded, etc. What happened?
The mob happened. A few individuals with a loud voice convinced the rest of the country (almost) that being against a certain lifestyle is bigotry. They did this through stories, arguments, media, and even through academia. And they’ve gotten the control of the mob to the point that even those who are really against it (the majority) are afraid to speak out against it for fear that they will be seen as bigots and narrow-minded.
However, this controlling of the mob is nothing new. It’s been devised for thousands of years. During Jesus’ time, those who knew the mob mentality of the people used it against Jesus to finally bring Him to death. (Mark 12:14).
It seemed as if Jesus was a victim of this mob mentality. Some pharisees convinced the crowd that Jesus was really against God and bad for the country. And the crowed wanted Him dead. And it worked! Jesus was executed as the crowd desired, led by a few inciters. But here’s the twist: All of this was in God’s plan! God knew that the crowd would turn against Jesus. Jesus knew this. And He fully allowed it happen so that what He came to do would be accomplished – that He dies the death we should’ve died…
So, don’t be afraid of the mob. Don’t be afraid of the popular opinions. They may kill your body but they can never touch your soul! Matt 10:28, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
