It is hard to hear about God’s wrath these days even in conservative churches. In attempting to be relevant and winsome, many churches and preachers will stay away from the topic of God’s wrath. But a God who does not get angry is a God who does not love! Love makes you angry! If you don’t, then you don’t truly love!

How do I mean? The more I love my daughters, the more I will hate what will harm them. If they ever experimented with drugs, for example, I will hate that drug in their system. Why? Because it’s destroying them. So, God hates sin in our lives. Because He is a God of love, He HATES sin in our lives. Sometimes He will take us home early to prevent us from sinning further.

And what is the essence of sin? It is following our own heart and going after what we think will give us ultimate happiness.

“This people, who refuse to hear my words, who stubbornly follow their own heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be like this loincloth, which is good for nothing.” Jeremiah 13:10

What do you do with a soiled underwear? You throw it away! So will God do to those who will not come to Him and be saved!

Are you saved? Are you being saved? Are you following your heart or God’s heart? I’m not talking about a “decision” you’ve made years ago to follow Christ. I’m talking about the decisions you are making today to follow Him.

The devil (through the world) tells us to follow our own heart. But God tells us to forsake our hearts and follow Him. What may be most comfortable and peace-giving might be exactly the opposite of where God wants you to be!
