Matthew 25:15-To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.

If you have the opportunity to work for a group, team, corporation or ministry it is important to realize what your abilities are. But what maybe more important is to know the limitations of your abilities! How and where you contribute best with what God has given you for His glory and purpose.

We see society and how not seeing each other as ” Christ body” provokes us to devalue the “talent/s” God has given us. Because without our abilities gifted to us by Christ, we see our value in comparison to other people, not in community or complementary to one another. This is why we make glorious what we do when we do it, and downplay what other people do as not as significant. Comparing “talents” rather than appreciating them…

Jesus in the context of the passage was referring to how his servants should be maximizing the “talents” He has given them for His service. That to not be maximizing the ability God has given us for His glory and purpose, is to live in unbelief that He is not coming back for what we have done with the ability He has given us.

This forces us to no longer focus on comparing ourselves with other people and the “talents” God has given them. Because God may have given them 5 talents and you 1 talent! But Christ calls us to focus on Him and how are we maximizing what He gave us. This makes us quick to fight against jealousy, laziness, pride, gossip etc. Because we have little time to focus on what someone else has if we are preoccupied with what we have to do!
