Exodus 30:14-15-Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord’s offering. 15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the Lord’s offering to make atonement for your lives.

It is hard to look at our society and believe that most people don’t measure the value of their lives according to what they can afford. The whole marketing industry is rooted in trying to have us see our value attached to purchasing what we desire or in their words “deserve”!

Yet if that is our mind state, then we will find it harder to believe that if we are poor we are just as valuable as someone who is rich in the eyes of God. Though the world may perpetuate a “hierarchy” or class system, the Lord doesn’t, all have fallen short of His glory and need atonement!

The Lord shows this in taking a census of the children of Israel, and has the rich give the same as the poor. In other words, their wealth or lack of it made no difference in their need of grace and atonement for their sins! That value via money is shallow and temporary, and cannot make the soul flourish in an individual to find deep satisfying value, but salvation can!

Allow God to renew your mind to His grace and who you are in Him. Because trying to find value in things and people will only give them the power to determine your value. God has already determined it by sending His Son, whether you can afford valuable things or not!
