Proverbs 3:7-Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Whether we believe it or not, people make decisions that we may think are bad for them, but in the person’s eyes it is what they desire. Now that desire can be altered by numerous things; culture, abuse, neighborhood, etc. that make their decisions to them seem best. Even if it our decisions are not extremely detrimental, when you did make the wrong decision did you get a second opinion before making it?

If we are honest most of us make decisions based on what we want and never consider seeking out a second opinion. Intuitively we know that if we do get an honest person’s opinion of our decisions they may disapprove, leading us to feel guilty when we decide to do what we want anyway! So we think it better to simply be wise in our own eyes and avoid the possible differing opinions of others.

The problem with that philosophy of life is that we become the highest source of wisdom, and instead of being conditioned to be corrected, we are more conditioned to be defensive. Mainly because we are not used to seeking out a second opinion nor are we used to thinking anyone knows what is best for us but us!

If Jesus Christ is the essence of all true wisdom and you know He loves you, and has been better to you than you have been to yourself, wouldn’t it be better to seek out His “opinion”? Because to seek God is to acknowledge not only that He is all-wise but that He actually loves you. We usually don’t ask for wisdom from strangers, but many times we don’t seek and ask from God, treating Him much like a stranger whose “opinion” we don’t value.
