Do you ever get afraid about your salvation? Do you ever get troubled by the thought, “Am I really saved?”, at times?

You should.

“Once saved, always saved,” is not taught in the Bible. Millions of “Christians” cruise along in their daily lives since they “accepted Jesus” years ago. They are smug in thinking that in the end, God will accept them since Jesus died for them no matter how they lived their lives in the meantime. And their lives are no different from unbelievers, or even worse at times, because they “know” they will be forgiven when asked. Then, what do you do with verses like these?:

“For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13.

Paul was writing this to believers in Rome. He is warning these believers that if they live according to the flesh, they will die (spiritually, forever, in hell). What? Does that mean we can lose our salvation? No. But it does mean that many will think they are saved when they had never been… “Accepting Jesus” as Lord but never living like it proves it false. The greatest proof of our salvation is our continued walk with Christ to the end. (Bearing the fruit of the Spirit)

So, we should be afraid and be troubled about our salvation. And “work out [our] salvation with fear and trembling.” (Phi. 2:12)
