Two words Satan loves: “One day…”

“One day, I will get right with God.”

“One day, I will go back to church.”

“One day, I will start spending more time with my kids.”

“One day, I will get more involved with ministry.”

“One day, I will start reading the Bible.”

As long as what we intend to do is in the future, Satan is delighted because he has us right where he wants. He wants us to live in the future. He wants us to presume on God that “one day” will come. And then he will cruelly cut our lives short, never allowing us to arrive at that one day. Or, he will delay that one day as long as he can, so that when we come to our senses, we will weep and bemoan the fact that we lived without delight of walking with Christ for so long! (Like a father who shunned his daughter all her life, only to see her later in life, and thinks he would do anything to get those years back…)

We are to live in light of the eternal future, not earthly future. Earthly future is where all our fears, anxieties, smugness reside. As long as we live in the future (one day…), we will either live in fear or in false security.

But we are to live in the present in light of the eternal future.

“choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

TODAY, choose your God!
