I just came back from a local pastors’ gathering. There were about 50 or so pastors from the Puget Sound gathered there. On the way to the gathering, I was listening to the radio show that talked about Robinson Cano’s $240 million contract. He will be making over $20 million a year. As I was sitting in that pastor’s meeting, all of these pastors’ assets put together wouldn’t equal to 1/10th of what the baseball player would be making in ONE year.

These pastors have given their lives to their people. They have toiled, gone without, sacrificed their families, moaned and groaned for decades and yet, all they have to live on is pitifully less than what a ball player makes.

This is very telling of our society. You can know what a society values by its heroes. We value ball players. Entertainment is our god and we will pour money as offering to our god…

Two thoughts: 1) I’m afraid of God’s judgment on America. When He asks, “What have you done with what I gave you,” what would we say? “We paid ball players???” 2) This world is not final. The kingdom of God is exactly the opposite. Those who are persecuted, went without, humble, unknown, meek will be called great in the kingdom of God.

So, take heart if you are unknown, poor, lonely, and you are content with being in Christ. Know that God will not think of you as such and you will be rewarded beyond your wildest imagination.
