“Unbelievers find God useful. Believers find God beautiful.”

What is your honest feeling toward God? Are you angry at Him because He isn’t answering your prayers? Then, you are thinking like an unbeliever. You are angry at Him because you don’t find Him useful. You are not following God. You are following you!

Why do you do good things? Is it so that God will look upon you with favor and give you what you want? Then, you are thinking like an unbeliever. You are manipulating Him to give you what you want.

How do you really feel about going to church, reading the Bible, and fellowshiping with other believers? Obligation, duty, and forced? How would you feel if your significant other felt that way about spending time with you?

Now imagine if you found God more beautiful and delightful than anything you’ve ever experienced. Don’t know? Think about what you do with things you delight in or you find beautiful. (Music, painting, hobby, lover, child, etc)

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Ps. 37:3-4

But how? Let me give you a way.

Think about how evil you are. Think about how selfish you truly are. You have 99 out of 100 things you want but you are miserable because you don’t have that one thing. And when you compare, you only compare up with those who have it better than you. Have you thought of the Syrian refugees? Or the millions of Filipinos who lost their homes? Or those who are homeless with children in this freezing weather in downtown Tacoma? (Please be free to go wild on how wicked you truly are!)

Then, think about how God still loves you!

Unless you know yourself to be evil, you won’t know God to be good. The more acutely you feel yourself to be the sinner, the more amazed you will be at God’s grace.

One sinner to another,
