How is a person truly changed? How does someone come to love God and becoming loving himself/herself?
How do we get our children to love God and follow Him?
How do we get our spouse to want to come to church?
How do we break a habit that we’ve been struggling to break?
How do we help a friend who has no motivation to do anything?
We often get frustrated or even depressed because of lack of change we see in our spouse, children, or even in ourselves. And the way we try to bring about change is by telling them so. “Honey, you should try to be more kind!” “You should control your temper!” “Don’t spend money on frivolous stuff!” “Study more!” But only with limited effects…
“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor. 3:18
It is what we SEE that changes us.
It was true in earthly sense, too. Many of your lives were changed when you first SAW your spouse. You mothers, it was when you SAW your child for the first time, you decided to live for him/her. It was when you SAW someone doing something great, you decided to follow the same path.
The Christian transformation can happen only when we SEE God’s glory. It is when we see Him as the exalted, holy, gracious, beautiful, and magnanimous Lord that our lives begin to change. Only when we begin to SEE Him as more precious than the world that we begin to shun the world and go toward Him.
But how can we see Him?
1. We must desire to see Him (Pray for this desire)
2. We must seek Him earnestly (“You will seek me and find me if you seek me with all your heart”)
3. Devote yourself to the word (“In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God.”)
4. Listen to the word of God preached that is God-centered. (Not ones that will try to fix your problems)
5. Keep yourself pure (“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”)
How can we help our children or spouse to see Him?
You cannot help them to see what you yourself don’t see first. That would be blind leading the blind. Do not focus on the behaviors. Focus on the heart. Pray for the supernatural – “For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit”
Jesus makes everything more beautiful. Walk with Him today!
