Good morning everyone,

Esther 10:3-For Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.

The call to sacrifice in any context is usually seen as heroic, because we put ourselves in the "hero’s" place and wonder do I have the courage to sacrifice my well being for the sake of someone else? Or coldly respond depending on how we feel, "I know I wouldn’t do that"! But we miss the most crucial element that usually causes anyone to sacrifice anything to their own detriment….compassion.

Before Mordecai had "his name up in lights" by his time in the story of Esther, he didn’t care about his name. He cared about God, which gave him the kind of heart that focused on his people, that he was almost killed by enemies of his people. But what motivated Mordecai, and what God eventually honored was his compassion and desire to bless people at whatever cost it called for. This should sound very familiar because that is the Spirit of Christ and the gospel.

The prayer for myself and the Kingdom of God is to answer the call of being burdened with the compassion God places on His children throughout the world. To live with a heart that is compassionate for other people, so much so you’ll sacrifice for their sake. When you get burdened like that, you’ll create opportunities and ministries that people know you are a genuine lover of God and people, revealing the essence of Christianity.

In His Love, Ld
