Is it possible that two people who are in similar circumstances be vastly different in how happy they are?

Imagine two Americans, both married with children, stable jobs, living in middle class houses, and good health. However, one had lost all his investments in the stock market and went from being a millionaire to a mere middle-class. The other landed a job that he never expected to get, being a ditch digger all his life, and is now enjoying the middle class status. Who’s happier?

Lesson: Our happiness doesn’t depend on our current circumstances. It depends on where we came from. It depends on what our past life was like.

What was our past life like? We were murderers worthy of death and hell for all eternity. We have killed the Son of God! You and I are guilty of the blood of the one innocent man who was God.

“Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.” Act 5:28.

That is what the Jewish leaders said to the disciples after Jesus’ resurrection as they were performing miracles and preaching in His name. After having incontrovertible evidence that these men were of God, they still would not get themselves to acknowledge that Jesus was the Son of God because have they were to do so, they would be admitting that they have killed the Son of God!

But the fact of the matter is that we have all killed the Son of God. It was because of our rebellion through sins that Jesus came and died. Had we lived in first century Israel, we would’ve joined the crowd and shouted, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”

So, those Jewish leaders were condemned. They went to hell which is what they deserved. And that is what you and I deserved. Death and hell forever and ever for rejecting and killing the Son of God….

Yet, He graciously and miraculously forgives all who would turn to Him. And gives them life.

Unhappy? Remember where you were. A death row. Now remember where you are. In God’s presence.
