Good afternoon everyone,

Genesis 2:3-So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Especially in our day, it is hard to consider what rest or a Sabbath really looks like. Our culture no matter where we live seems to struggle with rest, not in action but in our souls. The ability to have peaceful rest without thinking of physical vacations can be hard to conceive, but why is that?

Have you ever wondered why did God rest, and is God implying that we rest too? We know that this becomes a commandment to keep the Sabbath day holy to the Lord, but why is still the question?

Hopefully we recognize that God rested after creating the earth without any help from man at all! Adam had not been created yet, so he had no idea what rest was! This implies that when the Lord calls us to rest and honor the Sabbath (Christ being the ultimate Sabbath rest) we only have true rest in Christ! It takes faith to believe that we are not in charge of ultimately bringing rest and peace! So we are worshipping Christ as our rest when we reject our desires to be overly occupied with technology or aimlessly lazy, being materialistic, or indulging in addictions to find peace and rest….

All of these "solutions" are fallen Adam’s creations for pseudo peace. But faith comes to realize that communion with Jesus is the true rest! Jesus said in John 15:5 "that apart from me you can do nothing". How many of us ever considered that the "nothing" includes having true rest and peace?

In His love, Ld
