So, I’m writing this in sunny Florida! I heard Francis Chan speak yesterday at the conference that I’m at. He’s in San Francisco currently and discipling a few people so that they will be disciple-making-disciples. And during the stage interview, I heard him say that he left his church (of 4000!) because when he knew he couldn’t turn his church to become disciples, radically following God, he and his wife knew it was time to leave. Now, there is a man of God if you ever saw one!

My heart so resonated with him as he was speaking. I do not want a big church with lots of people in it but have no passion for Christ or compassion for the people. Most people in church are there for social reasons. They might as well belong to a club! And most people leave church because they found a better “club” to belong to anyway. That is so not the church I want.

So, I’ve been praying and I hope you can pray along with me. Let us make disciples of the people around us. What does it mean to make disciples? It’s simple. Jesus said, “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them… and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded…” (Matt 28:19) In other words, 1) leading people to Jesus (baptizing) and 2) helping them to become like Him (teaching to obey).

90% of Christians have never led anyone to Christ, they say. And yet Jesus said, “follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men.” So, if we are not making fishers of men, we are not following Jesus…

Let us repent and pray. And let us do the work of making disciples – the very purpose for which we are left on earth to do!
