There are only two possible purposes for life. One is building our own kingdom. The other is building God’s kingdom. This is becoming more and more clear as I look at the people around me, the celebrities, the historical figures, the athletes, and also as I look into myself.

What is scary is that in order to build our own kingdom, we will often go to the extremes to destroy anything that will hinder it. One example is from 1 Samuel 21. King Saul is chasing David because he feels threatened that he will lose his kingdom to him. When he finds out that a priest helped feed David and his men, he wipes out the whole town of priests that was involved – including women and children!

King Saul would rather murder a whole town full of innocent people than to let go of his own position, comfort, fame and a source of his worth….

This leads me to a thought: How impossible it is to convince someone to let go of his own kingdom and start living for God’s kingdom.

And that leads me to another thought: How grateful I am that God showed me a glimpse of His kingdom that is so much better than mine so that I would live for His kingdom rather than mine. This would’ve been impossible for me!

So, two corresponding thoughts: 1) We must completely rely on God to draw someone to Christ (even our own children) and 2) We must be forever thankful if we are saved from building our own kingdom since that didn’t come from us.

King Saul eventually lost his kingdom. Then, he went to hell. It’s only a matter of time that we lose our kingdom, and then we go to hell. I pray that you will see a glimpse of God’s kingdom. It is much much better.
