It is NOT true God can only use those who are submitted to Him. He can use ANYONE for His purpose. Even a pagan king who did not acknowledge His existence such as King Nebuchadnezzar.

What’s more amazing, God even calls this pagan king His “servant!” Read this passage carefully: “With my great power and outstretched arm I made the earth and its people and the animals that are on it, and I give it anyone I please. Now I will hand all your countries over to my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.” Jer. 27:5-6

Why was King Nebuchadnezzar so blessed? Was it because he lived a godly life? Was it because he had in mind to glorify God? No! If you remember your childhood story, he’s the same king who tried to kill Daniel’s friends by throwing them into a fiery furnace because they refused to worship the golden statute. And yet, God gave into his hands everything he ever desired. He was immensely blessed even though he was wicked!!!

Please draw out the implication: Success doesn’t prove our faithfulness. (God lets some evil men become filthy rich and maintain their health until death. On the other hand, God lets some good men die early in miserable conditions!)

Therefore, do not judge a book by its cover. Do not think a person is favored by God because he is rich, successful, have beautiful children, and a long life. They are merely being used for God’s purpose just like Nebuchadnezzar was used as an instrument by God. God can use good men as well as evil men for His purpose. He is absolutely sovereign. We can rest assured that God’s plan will not be thwarted because of some evil schemes or plans.

Then, why should we be good? If God can use anyone whether good or bad, why be good? Because by being made right with God – good – we gain the Giver. Evil men may enjoy earth for a time being but that’s all they will enjoy. Good men, made good by God, will enjoy God for all eternity. Therefore, do not simply desire what evil men also desire – earthly goods. But desire what only truly good men desire – heavenly good, which is God Himself.

Prayer: May Jesus alone be enough for us…
