I was sitting at Starbucks listening to Chopin’s Nocturne on my mp3 player over a hot cup of coffee this morning. I had just dropped off Sennah at her school and I had about 2 hours of free time to myself. A thought occurred, “How many people in the history of this world got to enjoy what I’m enjoying right now?” And then another thought, “Why should I be so blessed?”

But I think the greatest blessing is the fact that I can see this as a blessing. And this, I attribute only to God and not to my perceptiveness, positive thinking, maturity, etc. This is because God has made me a fertile soil – at least I hope and pray that that’s what I am. What do I mean?

Jesus tells the parable of 4 soils in Matt 13: (Seeds are sown in 4 different kind of soils)
1. The path – nothing grows.
2. Rocky places – grows quickly but dies quickly.
3. Among thorns – grows up but gets choked by thorns.
4. Good soil – grows and produces a crop.

Everyone who’s ever heard the word of God (seeds) falls into one of those categories.
1. Not interested. Don’t care.
2. Very excited initially. But quickly goes back to original state.
3. Seems to be growing but is filled with worries and too busy looking after worldly comfort.
4. Perseveres to the end and produces joy, love, peace.

Please know that only soil #4 represents someone who’s saved. It is unfortunate that MOST people I met at church fall into 1, 2, or 3. The fascinating thing about it is that the only people who understand what’s written here is the soil #4. The rest are not interested nor are they sticking around long enough to understand it…. (1. Don’t care, 2. Not there anymore, 3. Too busy with other things.)

“He who has ears, let him hear.” Matt. 13:9

What terrible indictment on our spiritual blindness!!!

Pray that you will have ears.
Pray that your children will have ears.
Pray that your friends will have ears.
Most of them don’t!
