Ephesians 5:1-2-Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.

Yesterday in picking up my son from school, his teacher had shared with me that he was searching for his coat. I had told him previously after "misplacing" his coat 6 times (but finding them!) throughout the year, that you have to be more responsible or you’re not going be visiting "Pa-Pops" house this week. Of course he was disappointed, but then wanted to know if I had trouble keeping up with my coat too when I was his age. I told him, "of course, recess can be distracting, but that’s not an excuse to be irresponsible".

I told him about how my mom literally couldn’t afford to replace coats like that, but even if she could, shouldn’t I be responsible in keeping up with it. So to make a long story short, my son told me that he wanted to be responsible and not misplace his coat. That’s why he stayed in during recess to find his coat, which was a big deal for him, and to me!

If you ever heard the phrase, "Imitation is the best form of flattery" then you know that what is most pleasing to God is not our perfection of performance (that’s a heavy burden isn’t it), but our desire of heart to be like our Daddy! That’s why He gives us the grace and encourages us to have faith to please Him. I told my son how proud I was of him, though I know he doesn’t know how I still feel like he does, in really wanting to do better because pleasing my Father matters to me too.

I believe all of us have people in our lives that a conversation about our relationship with Jesus is something they do not understand. Many of us have jobs working with such people, and we may be talking with someone who we might like, but has a completely different motivation in life than we do.

Living a life of faith in Christ can be very lonely, and cause you to be isolated, at least inwardly, because you may be surrounded or even live with people who do not share the same motive of living that you do. Isolation then becomes very dangerous especially if you are struggling to seek the satisfaction you need from being alone in Jesus. Then you find yourself in a state of loneliness and trying to find anything to help it go away.

Psychologist say that loneliness is at an all time high in America, probably due to all the gadgets of entertainment we possess, it’s easier to ignore one another. But I believe this is why we get so upset when people we care about don’t understand us at times. Yet Jesus, if we really seek Him, has been there and understands and wants to be the God of our loneliness. More than any other time, given all the temporary options available, we need to seek Christ to understand our own hearts. Because we may be seeking the answer from people who are trying to deal with loneliness apart from us.
