Perhaps as a reaction against prosperity gospel, we have gone too far denouncing peace, security, and prosperity. We have made it sound like we are against those things and it’s evil to seek after those things. But the Bible again is our faithful guide pulling us to have a correct and balanced view on things.

It is NOT wrong to pray for peace.
It is NOT wrong to desire security.
It is NOT wrong to seek for prosperity!

Proof? Ps 122:6-9
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”
8 For the sake of my brothers and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
I will seek your prosperity.

It says to pray for peace. Desire security. Seek prosperity. But also notice in verse 9, “For the sake of the house of the Lord our God…” We seek peace, security, and prosperity for the sake of God’s name being lifted. They are not the end in and of themselves. They serve a purpose – a purpose of giving honor to God’s name! But often, when we seek them, we seek them as the end goal, often using God as a means to achieve them.

So, I apologize if you got the impression that I’m against your peace, security and prosperity. I want you to have peace. I want you to be secure. I desire for your prosperity! Let’s wish those things upon each other so that we may praise the only God who granted them to us.
