Have you ever feared bad news? Someone, such as your doctor, lawyer, boss, wanted to meet up with you, and you became apprehensive about the meeting? There seems to be a lot of those these days. I’ve had my share of those as well…

But if we believe that God is our Father and we are His children and thus He does everything for our good (Rom 8:28), then we need to fear no bad news. Even if they sound bad initially, ultimately they will work for our good. That is what trusting Jesus entails.

“Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Ps. 112:7

We must remind ourselves that the purpose of life is not to be comfortable and be well. As long as we assume that, our faith will be shaken to the core. But the purpose of life is to become like Christ and be holy. Sometimes God will take away that which will hurt us a good bit in order to mold us to His Son’s likeness. He chisels, hammers, takes away a lump to bring us to a masterpiece.

If you are in such a place, rejoice! God is treating you as His son/daughter. If you have never known difficulties in life, be afraid. You might not be His child. And that has eternal consequences.

Love,

PH
