Have you ever thought about what it would be like to follow a king you love and respect into a fierce battle?

I’m thinking of a scene from the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, when Aragorn leads the charge into Mordor to give Frodo and Sam a chance to destroy the ring. Wouldn’t you love to have been there fighting next to the king knowing that your life is hanging in the balance, but also knowing that if you were to die, it would’ve been good death?

Maybe this is a male thing. If you do not identify, then I totally understand. But there really is nothing more exciting than following the King into a fierce battle knowing that your life could be over any minute.

We forget that our God is a King. We see Him as our Friend, Lover, or even Lord, but we rarely see Him as our King:
“Gird your sword upon your side, O mighty one; clothe yourself with splendor and majesty. In your majesty ride forth victoriously in behalf of truth, humility and righteousness; let your right hand display awesome deeds.” Ps. 45:3-4

Maybe the reason why we are so listless and anemic is because we are not going to battle with our king. Maybe the reason why we feel so dead is because we are not facing death!

Application? I don’t know. All I know is that there’s gotta be more to life than living the middle-class suburban life and our mission in life is to keep up with everything we already have…
