Good morning everyone,

Philippians 3:14-15-I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

It is no doubt that in our country today distraction can be our greatest adversary to being productive, involved, or committed to someone or something. Of course most distractions that many of us find ourselves in are not evil in themselves but distract or occupies us more than necessary. Eventually keeping us from paying attention to important people and tasks in our lives that should take precedent.

Many times it’s easy to justify why we allow ourselves to be distracted, and take ourselves away from something or someone more important than what we may be engaged in. I think we justify and rationalize our distractions almost subconciously to relieve ourselves from the need to be engaged at times we don’t want to. Yet maturity in every phase of life progresses at the root from a place of selfishness to unselfishness continually. For example to think of how you can best be available for a person or task that you should be engaged in, you must exclude any selfish agenda that doesn’t serve that purpose of being available. Many times I find myself guilty of trying to multi-task even though I know I can’t in reality, leaving someone or something neglected that should have my full attention.

Yet with Christ how much of your heart and energy do you devote to the single purpose of living for Christ call on your life? No Christian would debate that in theory because that is biblically most important. But anything that we agree with in theory yet don’t practice in reality is lip service. Lip service because we are supposed to agree because we profess Christianity? Eventually if it’s just theory and not practice from the heart, we will justify and believe it’s not wrong to be distracted or even passionate with other things, and not centrally focused on Christ and His call. Sadly this mentality if not repented of usually leads to a falling away from the faith completely, revealing that Christ may never have been the Lord of our lives (Hebrews 3).

In His Love, Ld
