I hope you have all enjoyed your Thanksgiving!

There is a compelling reason we could give to God to listen to our prayers.

Yes! In other words, despite what you’ve heard, we can barter with God. We can negotiate with Him even.

You see Abraham doing it. You see Moses doing it. You see David doing it as well.

What could possibly be the reason for God to listen to our prayers?

Something He cares so much about. Something He would defend at all cost…

His name.

God is very very jealous to guard His name.

Ps. 74:20, “Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land. Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name.”

If we are living our lives to make His name great, we can give Him a very compelling reason to listen to our prayers. Since it’s no longer about our needs or desires, but it’s about God’s name being praised among the people, God will far more likely to listen to our prayers.

But to get there, we must truly care about His name. Even more so than having our personal needs and desires met…

Can we say as did the psalmist, “O, Lord, listen to my pleas so that your name may be honored among the people!”
