Complaining and sulking are like drugs. The more we do them, the more we want to do them.

Sometimes we complain in doing good and being good. Especially when we do not get what we expect. And that takes away the joy of doing and being good.

What is the cure? How do we reverse the cycle of complaining and sulking?

Thanksgiving!

Ps. 50:23, “He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.”

This in contrast to offering sacrifices to God out of obligation and duty…

You say, “But I don’t feel like giving thanks right now! I’m anything but thankful!”

So, force yourself. That’s right. Force yourself because thanksgiving is a command and not a suggestion.

Start thanking Him with your lips for the things He’s already already done for you. Let your mind dwell in it for a while. Not the least of which is Jesus Christ His Son…

At the same time, remind yourself of what you deserved. All our miseries come from thinking that we deserve better. We deserved death and hell…

Give thanks to the Lord!
