1 Peter 2:1-3So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2  Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milkthat by it you may grow up to salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

It was God’s design from the institution of the family to be a “nurturing center” to build one another up in the love of Christ.  Though that is ideal, if you didn’t have the privilege of having parents who walked with Jesus, the family becomes a place known more for surviving, than finding trust and security to thrive from…
For example, there were times I visited friends when younger and the parents were always hostile towards one another or just cold, so there was never a feeling of comfort and safety.  The environment of that house was something for the kids to endure.  Signifying that discord defined the home more than unity and harmony…
Such family dynamics that many of us have endured really points to the only real hope against disharmony, that being an intimate walk with the Lord.  That as individuals who have tasted the goodness of the Lord, we should continue to strive for a continual “tasting” of this goodness, in our desire for the pure spiritual milk of the Word…
Peter implies that how we put away sins that disrupt unity and harmony, comes from an individual desire to grow out of that from the Word.  That individuals cause the home (or church) not to be a place where Christ’s love is on display.  Such a desire is a personal call and responsibility to remind ourselves of what we’ve tasted in the Lord’s goodness, if we’ve tasted Him…(1 Peter 2:4-5)
I believe nothing discourages our hearts to thrive in communal settings of families and churches than disunity.  Though unity and harmony may seem far-fetched in some homes and churches, our mentality should be to fight for it!  So pray to stir up your desire for God’s Word, that we may grow up together into salvation.  Spiritual growth always breeds further deliverance from aiding sins that cause division in our homes and churches. -In His Love, Ld
